Is there any way to get low income housing or grants for housing in the San Francisco Bay Area fast???

I am a single mom of 2 boys, work full time and I go back to school in august and I need to find a place to live fast. I am on the Section 8 waiting list, but they are talking about 5 yrs, and low income housing had a HUUUGE waiting list!!
ANY input would be appreciated.
THANKS

    Rent &/or move
My lowest cost renting in the bay area over the last 20 years was….
1- Renting a room from an older couple. $400 with free food, pool and spa. Go to your church(s) and see if there is an older person/couple who have an extra room(s) or maybe need someone to help care for them. You can offer shopping, clean, cooking, shopping, laundry and garden for less rent. Also, cable and utilites are usually free or less.
    3) Rich church maybe able to help more than poor area, but you never know.
2-Renting a room in a moble home- small but OK. Many don’t allow kids.
    3) Find where the section 8 has a smaller waiting line, maybe Oregon or Texas. And of course the schools you need. Then Move.
    4) Look for Grant/school loans on line or books at the library and of course the school you are going too.
    5) Move if you can get around paying out of state fees!!! The Bay area is way over priced and it reduces the quality of living. Sacramento, Chico, Redding, Vaccaville maybe. Warmer climates are better than cooler ones as. But, don’t move if you don’t have the resources to live for a wihile. Also, move to be closer to realatives who can help. California is good for poor as they have health care for kids, low taxes (for poor), mild climate, and low cost community colleges. but, rent is sky high!
    6) Consider Nursing. The best carreers for now is health care. Nurses are needed 24 hrs and you can schedule your shift part or full time. Can start as a nurses aid part time while going to school. Some hospitals have training programs. Also, there are 2, 3, 4 and 5 year nurse degrees and you money just keeps getting better.
For example, you may work in the night, while your kids are asleep with the older couple you live with is with kids, then take them to school. You go to school, … well you get the idea. sleep is in there somewhere too
Donald Trump was ask the "what is the quickest way to wealth?" at a seminar I attended, and he said marrage! But, the leading group of poor in this country is Single moms. (I don’t think Donald knows much about the poor)
And last, a budget or money plan. Credit Card Debt is the last thing you need. Don’t pay medical bills with a credit card. David Ramseys, Financial Peace University is good and some churches will pay the $100 for it. And the dad should be helping!
    I hope this helps,
May Jesus Bless you and your two little ones,

Sorry hon, that’s a problem being "working poor" in this country. Did you sign up for Federal housing, even though it had a "HUUUGE" list? Some housing is better than no housing, you can always move out. Unfortunately, big city, long lists. Try the women’s shelter, apply at the battered housing shelter, I don’t care if you were battered, get your kids a place to stay. Try friends, family you hate, ask for money to get to a support system. Do whatever it takes to get a roof over your kid’s heads and make sure they’re in school, come August/Sept. If it’s temporary until you get grant/loan, apt, whatever! If you have a relative who would be willing to take them in ’til you get it together, that would work. People did it during the depression.

Never be so proud that you’d pull your kids down with you. Stuff happens and it’s hard to support a family. Just do your best, especially if that means providing the best place for your kids. That makes you a SUPER MOM! Even if that means they’re not with you.

    HUGS and Support!
