Government housing grants?

I want to know how I can get government money to help fix up houses and rent them out to low income families? Is this possible? I have a friend that’s a sub-contractor that can fix the houses up, just need financial assistance in doing so. I really wanna do a group home or a home or complex for singe moms or something like that. Is there a program or grant that helps you if you are trying to help the commmunity??
